Mier signature Juan Pablo Mier
Sinfonía, Allegro con Fuoco: a large painting in pinks, reds and violets crossed by blue and black lines that suggest figures
Sinfonía · Allegro con Fuoco Oil on linen · 170 × 240 cm · 2025

Adagio

His painting gives form to what is felt intensely but cannot always be put into words.

Juan Pablo Mier came to painting through a life shaped by music. The piano gave him a precise relationship with time, silence, pause, repetition and execution. On a canvas, he found a way to speak with his whole body — without a score, and in his own voice.

In his work, abstraction and figuration meet without either one fully taking over. Forms appear as traces, hints, incomplete presences: a profile, a silhouette, a body barely suggested. The image stays open because the emotion that gives rise to it is also open.

Why Not?: dense black, magenta, pink and ochre gestures across the canvas
Gesture Gesture transforms physical release into composition.

“His work does not seek to convince, but to move.”

About

Juan Pablo Mier (Bogotá, 1978) builds an artistic practice at the intersection of music, painting and a deeply physical sensibility. He began studying piano at age five, a training that shaped his relationship with time, pause, rhythm and silence.

He studied Music Business and the Entertainment Industries at the University of Miami and Music Management at the Sorbonne. Between 2018 and 2023 he deepened his painting alongside the artist Rita Miranda, developing a gestural practice built from physical release, automatism and the unstable encounter between abstraction and figuration.

Since 2019 his work has been shown in Colombia, Mexico, France, the United States, Canada and Luxembourg. He is represented by Galería Adrián Ibáñez, Bogotá.

“Speed and physical release as modes of improvising the figure.”
